Ford Mustang S650 GT Meets Its End While Racing Cadillac CTS-V

While the next-generation 2024 Ford Mustang is still a fresh addition to the car scene, the owner of an S650 GT has already managed to crash one during a weekend drag race event against the very powerful Cadillac CTS-V.

No, it wasn’t the Caddy’s fault, and the ‘Stang’s driver has only himself to blame for this.

The crash, posted on Tiktok, isn’t as gnarly as pro-drifter James Deane’s spectacular Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD mishap, but it was enough to kill the car. The run went smoothly at first, with the CTS-V getting a big lead over the Ford, but near the midway point of the quarter-mile strip, the ‘Stang lost its rear end.

*Insert the Mustang joke of your choice here, dear reader.*

The driver couldn’t control the slide, sending the 480-horsepower muscle car straight into a crash barrier on the opposite side of the track. Saying the collision was severe is quite an understatement, as the car actually penetrated the barrier, and it was only stopped from going any further, thanks to a strong chain-link fence.

On the outside, the Mustang appears to have sustained damage to its side rocker panel, its trunk lid, and its rear passenger-side quarter. Some damage to the front end is also visible: the entire lower portion of the front fascia is gone, and judging by the post-crash position of its front wheels, most of the front suspension components are done for.

Thankfully, the side mirrors appear to be unharmed.

This is obviously not a case of “It’ll buff out.” We think the car is destined for that great drag strip in the sky, where it can crash repeatedly without any consequences.

The cosmetic damage may be fixable, but the real damage is to the components you can’t see. For example, we’re pretty sure the entire structure has been compromised to the point that it might not even be a salvage title.

Luckily, the driver of the Mustang remained unscathed by the mishap, which is a testament to the vehicle’s crash safety. That said, lessons were learned that day, and in the future, he might want to enroll at the Ford Elite Experience Club for some on-track courses guided by professionals.
