Top Gun: Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible In Matador Red, Driven By Maverick Star, Astonishes

One of the most notable vehicles produced by Oldsmobile throughout its 30-year career up until 1997 was the Cutlass Supreme. The Supreme was originally intended as a flagship model for the Cutlass series, but it went on to develop its own roofline and eventually became not just Oldsmobile’s most well-liked automobile but also the highest-selling vehicle in its category.

The first-generation vehicle was produced as a 4-door hardtop and 4-door notchback sedan in addition to a 2-door convertible, 2-door hardtop, and 2-door notchback sedan. When the second-generation Cutlass debuted in 1968, nothing changed; these were still highly attractive automobiles.

Up to 1972, the final model year for that version, these subsequent models underwent a complete restyle with reduced wheelbases and other facelifts. We’ve chosen to showcase one such vehicle to you today, a 1972 Cutlass Supreme convertible looking for a new owner.

A significant Hollywood star currently owns the vehicle, while we’re at it. Someone who has appeared in popular films like Requiem for a Dream, A Beautiful Mind, and most recently Top Gun: Maverick. She also provided Karen, commonly known as “Suit Lady,” in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

It is, of course, Jennifer Connelly, who acquired this car back in the year 2000 and has owned it ever since, according to the ad.

The vehicle has been refinished in its original Matador Red paint since leaving the factory, with visual features including the power-operated black top, color-keyed mirrors, dual exhaust outlets, body-side moldings, chrome bumpers, and a set of red 14-inch Super Sport II Rallye wheels with 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires.

There are a few chips and scratches in the paint, but overall, we’re impressed by the state of this Oldsmobile. We should also mention that it’s got power steering and power-assisted front discs (rear drums), so driving it should come easy to just about anyone.

The interior features faux woodgrain trim, a push-button AM/FM radio, front and rear bench seats in black vinyl, a four-spoke steering wheel, power windows, lap belts, and a Pioneer CD stereo hidden beneath the dash that is wired to an amplifier and some aftermarket speakers. It’s important to note that the air conditioner doesn’t blast any cold air; fortunately, this has an easy fix.

Under the hood is a 350 ci Rocket V8 engine, and seeing as how the car has dual exhaust outlets, we reckon the output should be 180 horsepower, instead of the 160 hp you got in the single exhaust 350 ci V8 variant. However much horsepower is still being put down, it all goes to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission, which has already been serviced this year. The engine also comes with a four-barrel carburetor, a black air cleaner, plus a gold intake manifold, cylinder heads and valve covers.
