Dodge customers who wanted a truly special package in 1969 could order the $3,575 R/T model, getting an impressive list of upgrades in return.
In addition to cosmetic improvements, such as the R/T emblems and the Bumble-Bee stripe, Dodge’s superstar also boasted significant mechanical improvements, such as heavy-duty suspension and drum brakes with optional front discs and 14-inch tires wearing F70-14 tires.
The upgrade everybody loved was hiding under the hood, as the Charger R/T was fitted with a 440 Magnum engine developing 375 horsepower. Those who wanted the best of the best could order the 426 Hemi, available as optional.
The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T posted on eBay by seller b-body440 hides a little secret that only true connoisseurs can decrypt. The car was born as a Charger 383 SE and was converted to an R/T by a previous owner.
It’s not a perfect conversion job, but the seller claims the car comes with all correct R/T emblems in new condition, front and rear seat covers, a headliner, and carpets in the box.
The most important part of the conversion has already been completed. The R/T wannabe now sports a 440 big-block V8 paired with a 747 transmission, so the owner got the powertrain right. Unfortunately, we don’t know if the engine starts and runs, as the car has been sitting for approximately 15 years. A previous owner abandoned this Charger because it needed a new starter. They parked the car in a barn and forgot about it.
Its condition isn’t the best, but the vehicle isn’t a rust bucket either. The previous owner’s desire to create a genuine R/T included several other upgrades, such as a Mopar Performance distributor, new wheels, and tires. The carburetor, distributor, and alternator were all new before the owner got tired of the project and came across the starter issue.
The part that makes this Charger truly special is the engine upgrade, as the 440 brings it closer to the R/T conversion that the previous owner dreamed about. It still needs plenty of work, but considering the car has only been sitting for 15 years, I believe the engine doesn’t come in an awful shape. A good mechanic should be able to tell you more about it, so head over to Norwalk, Connecticut, to check out the car in person. Unsurprisingly, this Charger has already caught the attention of many people online
