Multiple people, including two students and a school employee, were involved in a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 50 near Three Rivers School District on Wednesday. It happened around 7:30 a.m. when crews were called out to the scene of a crash on US-50 and Cooper Road in Cleves.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, a 44-year-old woman in a Honda Pilot was driving east and was turning left when she was hit by a Hyundai Elantra, driven by a 25-year-old woman. A 13-year-old girl inside the Honda Pilot was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. She was taken to Children’s Hospital by air care, where she is in critical but stable condition.
A 15-year-old boy inside the Honda was also taken to Children’s for examination. The 44-year-old woman was taken to UC Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 25-year-old woman driving the Hyundai was taken to UC Medical Center with serious injuries. Three young children inside the Hyundai were also taken to Children’s Hospital for evaluation of possible injuries.
According to a spokesperson for Three Rivers School District, two students and a school employee were involved in the crash. The spokesperson confirmed one of the students, a high schooler, was the victim who was ejected in the crash and transported by Air Care to a nearby hospital.
“We are a family,” parent Beth Harvey said. “And I feel like as the day goes on and as our kids come home from school, it’s going to be a little bit more emotional because it is a smaller community, but we’ll just be hugging our kids a little tighter tonight and be really thinking of the other kids.”
The third vehicle involved was a box truck that was waiting to turn onto US 50 and was subsequently hit as a result of the other 2 vehicles colliding. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
