A Massachusetts man is dead following a crash on Interstate 95 in North Attleborough, and state police said they are trying to find the driver of the car that caused the collision and fled the scene. State police said they first received reports of a multi-vehicle crash on I-95 north in the area of Exit 7.
Troopers found two vehicles, a 2015 Jaguar XJ and a late-model Cadillac Escalade, with serious damage when they arrived at the scene. State police said witnesses stated that a third vehicle, a 2006 Buick LaCrosse, was involved in the crash and initially stopped before leaving the area. The driver of the Jaguar, a 58-year-old Foxborough man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld by state police while they work to notify his next of kin.
The driver of the Cadillac, a 61-year-old man from Providence, Rhode Island, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believe the Buick was traveling on the southbound side of I-95 when it was involved in a collision with the Cadillac near Exit 7. The driver of the Cadillac then lost control of the vehicle, which entered the median and struck the Jaguar on the northbound side of the highway.
After getting a description of the Buick from witnesses, state troopers broadcast that description to police departments in the area.
At about 5 p.m., Attleboro police alerted state police that they found a Buick in their town with front-end damage and flat tire that matched the description of the LaCrosse that fled the I-95 crash scene.
State troopers responded to Attleboro and contacted a man who is associated with the Buick. The investigation into whether that man was the driver involved in the crash remains ongoing, according to state police.
The crash remains under the investigation of Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, troopers assigned to the Troop H Detective Unit, the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, the MSP Crime Scene Services Section and the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
All lanes on I-95 north were closed while emergency personnel assisted the crash victims and secured the scene. The northbound side of I-95 was completely reopened shortly after 8 p.m.
