1975 was a turning point for the Corvette, as Chevrolet finally decided to discontinue the convertible (before reintroducing it the next decade).
The yearly sales backed its decision, as the company sold 38,465 Corvettes in 1975, and 33,836 units were coupes. The convertible accounted for only 12% of the entire Corvette production, so the company had little reason to continue investing in this less intriguing version.
One of the last convertibles from the original Corvette run landed on eBay this week, hoping to convince someone to take it home.
The car looks great, but it received a professional repaint in 2016. However, the color is one major selling point, as you can rarely find a Bright Green 1975 Corvette convertible. Chevrolet produced only 1,664 Vettes in Bright Green in 1975 (color code 42), and even fewer are likely to use a convertible body style.
Another major selling point is the mileage. The owner explains that the car has only 26,500 miles on the clock, promising they are all original.
We don’t get much information on the engine, but the VIN decodes to the base V8. It should start and run, as the Corvette doesn’t seem like it requires major mechanical fixes. The owner says everything works except the clock, the alarm system, and the rear defog. You get all the parts to get them up and running, so you’ll have to find a good mechanic to fix everything.
eBay seller cherskyaircrafters starts by saying that the Corvette is “all original except the professional repaint,” though the car has also received a bunch of upgrades, including aluminum wheels from a 1976 model and a steering wheel from a 1980 Corvette.
The car sells without a spare tire, although the spare tire lock is still available.
A Bright Green Corvette convertible is rare, and it’s even harder to find one in this condition. As a huge fan of all-original cars, I admit this Vette leaves me wanting more, but it’s pretty close to a stock model that collectors would drool over.
As one of the last convertibles, this example can’t sell cheaply, with the owner expecting to get $30,000 for the car. However, they also enabled the Make Offer button on eBay, allowing you to negotiate the selling price if you’re interested in this Vette. I doubt they’ll get much lower, but the option is there, and you should use it.
If you want to see this convertible in person, which I think is highly recommended if you like rare colors on a Corvette, you must go to Santa Maria, California. eBay’s statistics indicate that 18 people are already watching the listing, so maybe negotiations are underway to find a new home for this otherwise beautiful convertible.
