Ain’T No One Got Love For This 68 Ford Galaxie 500 Xl, Vendor Makes It Cheaper As A Result

We rarely come across a 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL, which is why the one we covered a few weeks ago remains in our minds. Curious to see if it was still for grabs, we clicked on the same ad and instantly found out that not only had it failed to change hands, but it was also a bit more affordable.
Towards the end of July 2024, which was when we first encountered the listing, a $27,900 sticker price accompanied the car. Back then, we compared it to the MSRP of a brand-new Ford Mustang EcoBoost, which kicks off at $31,920 for the 2025 model year, with the most affordable V8-powered variant, the regular GT Fastback, starting at $45,460 before destination.

So, how much do you think this 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL costs now? Try $25,900. That’s $2,000 cheaper than before, and while it is not a significant drop, it should be enough to help it attract some interested petrolheads. That is about as much as a new Ford Maverick, with the unibody pickup kicking off from $23,920 before destination and dealer markups.

The odometer still reveals 26,703 miles (42,974 km), so this old-timer hasn’t seen any action these past few weeks. The vehicle comes with a shiny orange paint, is sprinkled with some chrome accents, and sits on five-spoke wheels. The cockpit is mostly black and sports some metal and wood trims. The vendor says it has power steering and power brakes, as well as air conditioning.

This iteration Ford Galaxie came out from 1964 to 1968 and the Blue Oval offered it with straight-six and V8 firepower. Fortunately, this one packs an eight-cylinder engine under the hood, and it is a 390 ci unit. The 6.4-liter motor has an Edelbrock carburetor and intake and works in concert with an automatic transmission. It has factory disc front brakes, and the overall appearance and low mileage tell us that it was either restored or obsessively maintained over the years.

Sure, you could land a cheaper 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 XL than the pictured example. At the same time, you could also find more expensive ones looking for new homes on the used car market. This one sits kind of in the middle, and if you ask us, it is an interesting proposal for the aforementioned asking price. Would we pay almost $26k for it? Probably, if we badly wanted one, yet maybe not before seeing it in the flesh.

So, if you had a roughly $26,000 budget and the desire to purchase an old-timer signed by Ford, would this ’68 Galaxie 500 XL make it to the top of your shortlist, or would you rather opt for something else instead?
