Mysterious 1964 Pontiac GTO Flexes 389 Tri-Power, Dressed To Impress

The GTO adventure started in October 1963, with the first model based on the Tempest Le Mans and promising performance upgrades supposed to provide more adrenaline behind the wheel.
Customers who wanted the GTO had to pay $295 for a 389 with 325 horsepower, hood scoops, upgraded suspension, dual exhaust, and other great goodies that weren’t otherwise available for Pontiac buyers.

The GTO was an instant hit, with 32,450 buyers paying the extra bucks to get this package. However, only 8,235 customers ordered the Tri-power option, which increase the power to 348 horsepower.

One of them is here after landing on eBay, thanks to seller wovavwo_dkfvfl7.

Pontiac GTOs are always intriguing muscle cars, but finding one that checks all the big boxes for a collector is rare. Unfortunately, while this GTO seems to be a great candidate for someone’s collection, it made its way to eBay with few specifics, so I doubt someone will agree to pay the big bucks without seeing it live.

The owner says the car is fitted with a 389 Tri-Power paired with a four-speed manual transmission, but anything beyond this is as mysterious as possible. The owner doesn’t share more information, leaving us hoping for more, especially because the photos indicate a fantastic shape for this GTO.

The car comes with stock power seats and air conditioning, and that’s pretty much everything we get for this otherwise intriguing car.

The GTO looks fantastic, and the first thing I’d ask if I were to contact the owner with an offer is whether it has already been restored. I doubt this is the factory condition, but it wouldn’t be the first time a first-year GTO emerges from hiding in this desirable shape. The paint looks flawless, without dents or scratches, but you should be able to obtain more information with an in-person or third-party inspection.

The owner says the car is a “great driver,” so it’s safe to assume the GTO is prepared for the road. The engine should start and run correctly, and I assume the vehicle doesn’t need anything, especially considering the hefty price.

And since we’re already speaking about money, few people can afford this car. The owner is ready to let this convertible go for $70,000, which makes sense considering its shape. However, I can’t stress enough how important it is to see this GTO live before committing to a purchase, as the listing leaves too many questions without an answer.

The owner also enabled the Make Offer button, so you could be able to get the GTO a bit cheaper if you have the right negotiation skills.

Meanwhile, the car is parked in Wyckoff, New Jersey, and you should be able to drive it home on its wheels, considering its beautiful shape.
