1980 Chevrolet Camaro Found In A Barn Wears Mysterious Paint, “Very Rare”

The big news in 1980 on the Camaro was the introduction of V6 engines to replace the 250ci six-cylinder units that were already feeling outdated. Everybody except Californian buyers received a 229ci engine with 115 horsepower.
The desirable Z28 was fitted with a 350ci V8 engine generating 190 horsepower, and the configuration proved popular despite a hefty $7.1K price tag.

The Z28 accounted for more than 45K cars sold this year, despite its engine also being offered for other Chevrolet Camaro buyers.

A 1980 Camaro that recently landed on eBay is allegedly a barn find that has recently been pulled from storage and which flexes a mysterious paint.

I won’t comment much on its condition because anyone can see what it looks like in the photos shared by the owner, so let’s spend a minute discussing the color.

Seller clisaa_0 explains that their Camaro Z28 is a Hugger Orange example of the 1980 model year, and while they don’t claim this is the original paint, some of the photos they posted on eBay show the car painted in red. It’s unclear what’s the current color and whether the paint difference is a result of different camera settings, but Hugger Orange was not an option on the 1980 Camaro.

The red finish was on the options list, and I think the closest this Camaro gets to this paint is Red Orange, which made its way to 4,374 examples. The owner says the paint makes this Camaro very rare, so I guess the car left the factory painted in Orange Red, so it’s one of the approximately 4K units that used the same finish.

The rarest color in 1980 was Lime Green, which is believed to have made its way to approximately 1,250 Camaros.

Otherwise, this Camaro is in good shape, and the owner says the car has never been involved in an accident. This is good news from a metal perspective, but you should still put the car on a lift and check the undersides.

The engine starts, runs, and drives, but it’s unclear if it has ever received a makeover. Your best option is to arrange an in-person inspection and determine how much of the car is still original and what’s up with the allegedly rare paint the owner advertises on eBay.

The car isn’t selling cheaply, as the owner expects to get approximately $15K for this Camaro. The vehicle has already caught the attention of many potential buyers, and the auction site indicates that 29 people added it to their watchlists.

The car is parked in Yakima, Washington, and you shouldn’t need a trailer to take it home, albeit you’ll first have to see it live before determining if it requires any urgent work under the hood for a long journey to your garage.
