Everybody loves the 1970 Chevelle, mainly thanks to the new sheet metal and the big-block engines available for buyers interested in high performance.
The base engine on the Chevrolet Chevelle was the six-cylinder unit producing only 155 horsepower, while the base V8 was the 307 with 200 horsepower. The SS 396 came with a 402ci unit producing 350 or 375 horsepower.
The LS6 was the fantastic engine that everybody loved. The 454 big-block produced no more, no less than 450 horsepower.
The Chevelle in these photos no longer has the original engine under the hood, now hiding a little surprise that not everybody will enjoy. eBay seller 2007saleen71 says the original engine is already gone, and someone installed a Corvette unit in the car. No further specifics were provided, and the big question is whether it’d run.
The owner says the engine turns over by hand, but they didn’t attempt to start it. Whoever buys the car will have the opportunity to discover what happens under the hood in full, so find a good mechanic and go see this Chevelle in person before committing to a purchase.
One critical tidbit is the car’s long tenure off the road. The owner says on eBay that the last time this Chevelle was driven on a public road was in 1974, and while this could be a good reason to think that the car exhibits heavy rust, this isn’t the case. The floors and the trunk are solid, albeit some metal work will still be needed.
The car was involved in an accident, and the rear driver’s quarter was damaged.
This Chevelle rolled off the assembly lines as a Malibu. The 1970 Chevelle trim lineup included the 300 Deluxe and the Malibu, while the available body styles were coupe, sedan, and convertible.
Saving this Chevelle and bringing it back to the road won’t be easy, especially if you aspire for a tip-top shape. Everything on this car requires more or less attention, but the good news is that aside from the engine and the wheels, it doesn’t look like many parts are missing. This Chevelle can become a great custom build or restomod, and turning it into a daily driver could be easy if the Corvette engine under the hood starts.
The 1970 Chevelle legacy has rapidly caught everybody’s attention on eBay, and the convertible received 29 bids in only a few hours online. The top offer is $27,700, and the most important bit is that the auction comes without a reserve. This means that the highest bidder will take the car home without needing to hit a specific auction limit.
