1969 was a big year for the Firebird lineup, as Pontiac introduced the Trans Am, the model that eventually became the best-selling name in the entire series. The Trans Am needed approximately half of a decade to go that high, eventually surpassing 117K units ten years after it came to be.
However, the start of the adventure in the automotive world was shy, and the Trans Am production didn’t even exceed 700 units. Only 8 convertibles rolled off the assembly lines this year.
The Firebird was still Pontiac’s moneymaker, with the coupe accounting for over 74K units produced this year. Only 11,641 convertibles left the factory in 1969.
One is here, and while the 1969 production exceeded 87K units, it’s hard to find a Firebird looking so good and with an intriguing number on the clock.
The car was born and raised in North Carolina, and if you’re a diehard Pontiac connoisseur, you probably know what this means. The Firebird comes with zero rust, and a photo exposing the undercarriage reveals clean metal, so you won’t have to patch the floors or deal with any surface rust.
The body paint looks really good, and I wonder if the car has ever been respray, especially because the owner says the interior is all new. The white interior and convertible top also look great, and they don’t seem to require anything.
The engine under the hood is a 350 V8 paired with a Turbo 350 transmission. The numbers seem to match, and everything runs correctly after the owner took care of everything under the hood, replaced the fuel tank, and got the engine running in perfect shape.
The mileage on the clock is probably the most intriguing bit on this Firebird. The convertible shows only 19K miles, and while they are not documented and therefore can’t be guaranteed, eBay seller chgohr says the previous owner’s grandson “confirmed” the number. This is hardly proof that this Firebird is a low-mile convertible, but when everything else is missing, a member of the original owner’s family backing the numbers is the only thing you can use.
Otherwise, it’s hard to find something to complain about on this Firebird, and everything is in great shape, so you can hop in and drive, without caring about any other required fixes. However, you might want to inspect the low-mile claim, aa a Firebird convertible with 19K miles on the clock should spend limited time on the road.

The first time I spotted this Firebird was earlier this year when it carried a $42,500 price tag, so it couldn’t sell and the owner lowered their expectations.
